Barcarolle No.10 in A minor, Op.104 No.The roman numeral for number 1 is ' i' and is used to indicate this is the 1st triad chord in the scale. This tonic chord's root / starting note is the 1st note (or scale degree) of the Cb natural minor scale. 1 Its relative minor is A-flat minor (or enharmonically G-sharp minor ). I am now informed that, according to Jean-Michel Nectoux ( Gabriel Fauré: A Musical Life, p.512) the Thème et Variations were completed 1895 September, premiered 1896, and given first publication in 1897 both by Hamelle and by Metzler of London. The C-flat minor chord i is the Cb minor chord, and contains the notes Cb, Ebb, and Gb. C-flat major (or the key of C-flat) is a major scale based on C, consisting of the pitches C, D, E, F, G, A, and B. Quite possibly composed 1895 also, as the autograph for op.66 is dated 1894.
